Who is the Northeast Unschooling Conference for?

This conference is for unschoolers, eclectic homeschoolers, self-directed learners, autodidacts, and the people who love and support us! Maybe you attend an alternative learning center, Sudberry or Waldorf school, or maybe you are a radical, whole-life unschooler. Professional educators and researchers are also welcome, although this conference is geared towards unschoolers ourselves. Grown unschoolers are highly encouraged to attend!

Join us at Camp Winadu in the Berkshire Mountains for family-friendly programming, outdoor activities, and plenty of adventure. All ages are welcome! The Northeast Unschooling Conference is an annual gathering of unschooling families, grown unschoolers, and lifelong learners. Our goal is to create community, encourage dialogue, and help others embody liberatory educational practices outside of traditional school structures. We offer recreational and entertaining programming, workshops, and discussions meant to foster empathy, creativity, and dialogue around unschooling.

Our all-inclusive tickets cover your lodging, dining hall access, and conference pass! All ages are welcome, and ages 5 and under (at the time of the conference) are free! While registration is FREE for children 5 and under, please do add it to your cart if you will be bringing a child age 5 and under so we have accurate counts of who will be attending the event.

What is housing like at Camp Winadu?

Cabins are Jack-and-Jill style, with each cabin divided into two wings that share an adjoining bathroom. Each wing contains 2–4 bunk beds, while the shared bathroom includes 1–2 showers and 2–4 bathroom stalls. We assign each wing to a family or group, grouping individuals by age or specific requests whenever possible. Due to limited space, each cabin houses two families or groups. For adults traveling solo or in small groups, we will reach out to arrange placement in an adult-designated cabin.

For most of the summer, this camp operates as a sports camp for young boys. The accommodations are rustic, featuring basic wooden bunks and screened windows (without glass). We recommend bringing plenty of sunblock, bug spray, and extra blankets. Please note that there is no laundry on-site. Check out our packing list—info coming soon!
